HSS Family Newsletter 12/15/25

It has been truly heartwarming today to see your children wearing fun winter sweaters and enjoying being in school. We will have gingerbread house building in some classrooms and spirit days all week.

Details on Friday's holiday assembly are below. We will have the lost and found set up in the lobby on Friday.

Hope to see many of you at the assembly,

Leah Wheelan, Principal

I hope that everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving and some relaxed family time.

We had some wonderful events at school last month and there are pictures below. The K, 1st, and 2nd grade School Sing was well attended, a couple 3rd grade rooms had a Donuts with Grownups event, and the 4th grade planned a Veterans Day celebration in the cafeteria.

A friendly reminder that as long as the 'feels like' temperature is 10 degrees or above, our students go out for recess. Thank you for ensuring that they have all of their snow gear and that it is labeled. Writing your child's initials with a Sharpie on the tag works well.

We will host a holiday assembly in the gym on December 19th. All students, Kindergarten through 4th grade, will attend. We will seat attendees after 1:30 and before 1:50. The assembly will begin at 1:50 and end by 2:40.
Please remember that we will need to run dismissal as usual so students can not leave from the assembly. All students will return to their classrooms to pack up their belongings. If you'd like your child dismissed out front at 3:00 and that is not your usual dismissal method, please change your child's PikMyKid for the day.

We have so many events this month and we hope to see many of you in the school. This Friday is our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade Family Sing in the gym at 2:00. We had over 150 families attend our September Sing. This was the largest group of families that we've had since I've been here.

The PTO is hosting Family Game Night on the following Friday, the 24th, at 5:30. Then on the 30th, we will continue with our annual Halloween parade on the field. Because this is an early release day the parade will be held from 9:30 - 10:30. We hope that it won't rain, but if it does, we will invite families into the gym and cafeteria and the students will parade inside.

In addition, we have parent teacher conferences on the afternoon of the 30th and all day on the 31st. I will be available during both those days. If you'd like to meet with me for any reason, feel free to send me an email to schedule a time.

The weather has been spectacular and we've been saying that it feels like fall when the students arrive and summer by the time they leave for the day. Our afterschool programs, drama club and Finding Our Stride running club, are underway.

We are holding our first kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade school sing on Friday, September 26th. Families are invited and it will be held in the gym. You can check in at the front office between 1:50 and 2:00. The students start arriving in the gym around 2:00 and the sing will be over at 2:45. Parents will then leave the building and we will dismiss using PikMyKid as per usual.

Our September spirit day is also on the 26th and details are below.

We have had a fantastic start to school! Our first Orientation Event was well attended and I have received a lot of positive feedback from students, staff, and families. Many parents have mentioned how nice it was to meet the teachers and get a chance to see the classrooms before school starts. For those of you that weren't able to attend, all of the presentations are linked below.
