Students pose for a photo on the balcony of a museum

Hello,

There is clearly a need for more afterschool STEM based activities. We had over 70 students sign up for the new STEM club before we turned off the Google Form. I am going to have to think about some creative ideas to enlarge both the Robotics and the STEM club next year. Thank you to those of you who have already reached out with funding possibilities and staffing/volunteers.

I will send out an email giving everyone a day's notice before we open the Lego Club sign up form and we will prioritize students who did not attend the Robotics or STEM club.

And last, a reminder that there is no school the week of April 20 - 24.

Thank you,

Leah Wheelan, Principal

A group of 3rd graders pose for a photo

Hello,

Our Robotics Club has been a huge success and the students have loved it. I'd like to thank our kindergarten teacher, Megan Flanders, for leading the club.

If you are a parent of a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grader, you will receive an email at apx. 8:00 tonight with sign up information for our next club which is an afterschool engineering and design club. We also have collected enough legos so as soon as I have a parent volunteer confirmed, I will send out information on an after school lego club for K-3rd graders. If you are interested in helping, please send me an email. I hope to start the Lego club in two weeks.

And last, a reminder that there is no school on March 30th as this is a professional development day for all staff.

Thank you,

Leah Wheelan, Principal

Four elementary school students work on an arts and crafts project together

Hello,

It's been a fun reading week. Our visiting author, Lesa Cline-Ransome , was a big hit with the students on Tuesday. 👕Friday is Read My T-Shirt day 👕.

We also have two accomplishments to celebrate. Kenzie Letson was the winner of our school spelling bee and she just finished the next round of the spelling bee and has qualified to compete at the end of the month in Manchester at the New Hampshire State Spelling Bee. We wish her the best!

In addition, the Lebanon Maroon boys 3rd/4th grade basketball team were the champions of the double elimination tournament. Congratulations to Decker, Oliver, Max, Eli, Harrison, Asher, Sully, and Waylon and head coach Sarah Vashel and assistant coaches Heather Baker-Morris and Tom Vashel.

Please remember that there is an early dismissal on Thursday, March 12th and there is no school next Friday, March 13th. The staff will be here on both days because it is parent/teacher conferences. Please contact your teacher if you have not signed up for a conference yet. I will be available on both days if you'd like to set up a time to meet for any reasons.

Thank you,

Leah Wheelan, Principal

Students pose with their awards from the HSS Spelling Bee

First, thank you to everyone who made soup and bread for the amazingly delicious soup week! The timing was perfect with cold weather outside and warm soup inside all week.

Please see below to sign up your 3rd or 4th grader for the new HSS free after school robotics club! We'd like to start a lego club afterschool, but we are in need of more legos so please drop off any old legos in the office.

And last, we need to ask that everyone drives as far into the express drop off loop as possible before stopping to drop off your children. We have extra cars when the weather is so cold and we're backing up traffic on to the road.

A group of students pose with a snowman

I hope that everyone enjoyed the long weekend and had some fun out in the snow. It is hard to believe that we are almost at the halfway point in the school year! Megan McFarland will be returning to HSS on Tuesday as the assistant principal and we will have to say goodbye to Mr. Concannon, our interim AP. He's been a great help keeping the school running smoothly over the last five months.

On a different note, our January K-2nd grade Sing will be held on the 30th and we hope to see many of you there.

It has been truly heartwarming today to see your children wearing fun winter sweaters and enjoying being in school. We will have gingerbread house building in some classrooms and spirit days all week.

Details on Friday's holiday assembly are below. We will have the lost and found set up in the lobby on Friday.

Hope to see many of you at the assembly,

Leah Wheelan, Principal
